This song stands for everything I love about Brazil: creativity, optimism, tolerance, curiosity, naturalness, freshness, their active nature, their aptitude to enjoy, the melting pot upon which they have built their country, their love for music and nature, their ability to make the most of everybody’s talent and to accept everyone in their diversity. Bazilians walk wide eyed through life so as to capture all surrounding beauty and profit from it wherever it may lay.

When I was a toddler my Dad used to play his Sergio Mendes

Jobim, Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Astrud Gilberto… or other Bossa Nova records. I needn’t be able to speak yet nor understand the lyrics to feel bewitched by the beauty of the language or to react with clumsy puppy movements to the music.

Nowadays it’s still more than worth to get closer to Brazilian music. Be it to listen to a Bebel Gilberto’s remix

or A banda mais bonita da Cidade’s awesome hymn Oração.

Tribalistas’ Ja sei namorar is one of my favourites song/video ever. It captures very well what I hope to be the essence of this blog. And also a comradeship and a joy of living that can be found and recognized everywhere in the world, such as the ones in this photo, a gift from the kids from Senegal appearing on it.

As the lyrics state: I am nobody’s. I belong to everyone/all the world and the whole world/everybody belongs to me as well.

I haven’t been to Brazil yet. Physically. But I’m already a tiny bit brazilian. I firmly believe that gathering those colourful bright little bits and integrating them in ourselves it’s what will make us grow and sparkle like a cathedral’s stained glass window.
